How to Resize Facebook NetworkedBlogs widget

Have you just embedded your Facebook Networked Blogs widget on your site? If you’re just starting out with this widget, unless you’re Internet famous, you may only have a handful of followers showing up so far.  You're probably looking for a way to change or resize your facebook networked blogs widget so that you don't have so much empty space in it.

Does it look a bit sparse? Do you feel stressed to fill up all the space they’ve given you with random faces of followers? Well, there is an easy solution! You can make the widget smaller so it looks full even with just 4 followers. I made some screenshots of the 'before and after' NetworkedBlogs widget on one of my other blogs.

Resize your widget

BEFORE
The panel in which I've done the yellow squigglies is the empty white space I want to get rid of. The black arrow points towards the 'quick editing' tool mentioned below.

1. Go to your ‘Layout’ page on your blog. If you have a quick editing tool on your blog just use that instead, as it's more straightforward.

2. Identify where (on your layout page) your NetworkedBlogs widget is and click ‘edit.’ You should see something like this.

3. Look towards the top of the widget. In the second line, just about where I've  circled, you will see, ‘style="height:360pxpadding.'

4. Change the 360 to any number you wish.

5. Important: Click ‘save’ when you’re done.

6. Voila! Your NetworkedBlogs widget fits nicely on your page without a large white space at the bottom.

AFTER - NO UNSIGHTLY SPACE.

Hi Anne! Yeah, this is a very useful tip. Most people really don't have time to understand basic formatting so they end up stuffing their blogs with widgets that don't even fit or don't give a good impression. =)

Thanks for sharing.

Peace and respect,
Ryhen

Great tutorial, Anne. It looks much better after the edit.

Anne,
Very handy tips for Blogger users. :-) You're certainly getting comfortable with the widget customizations. Good job as always. I'm joining for sure.

Loving all the interactions on FB/Twitter. May the new year grants you with success!

That was great Anne! I had trouble in basic formatting too. Now that was a great way of reducing the height of the widget. The images made it easier to understand. I have seen so many bloggers who have widgets that have greater width. So this makes the blog really ugly as you need to scroll each time...
Anyways, thank you so much for this post and a big smile...:)
Have a great day!

Anne, I know that this is a slightly different issue but was wondering why all my followers simply show up on my widget as 'Facebook User' and without image. Wondered if you had any ideas.

Thanks a million, enjoy your blog.

Rohan

Hi,Rohan. I'm sorry I couldn't access your blogger profile to have a look. The obvious question is, have your followers got facebook profiles and actual pictures there?
Secondly, sometimes it depends on your browser. Have you got Google Chrome? It can be fast, but sometimes it's problematic when it comes to displaying certain things properly. My guess is that the followers show up fine with other browsers but not with yours. Try accessing it with IE and see if there is a difference.

Hi Anne, I searched and your article came up first on Google! Yay~~
Problem is...I am still looking for more configuration. I already did this, but still have a lot of space between the picture and the "follow this blog" button.

Hey Anne,

Just found your blog from doing a Google search on the Networked Blogs widget. Found this very helpful thank-you.
I'm your latest follower.

Hi Anne. I'm your newest follower. That was a great tutorial. I wonder if you could possibly help me. I joined NetworkedBlogs a few days ago and, unfortunately, when I first set it up, I didn't put the NetworkedBlogs badge onto my Blog page. Now I don't know how to get the badge onto my Blog. Can you help at all please?? I've tried going through the set up procedure again, but it just keeps saying "this Blog is already registered". Thank you.

Anne Lyken-Garner March 19, 2011 7:36 AM

Great knowing this is helpful to so many people.

Anne Lyken-Garner March 19, 2011 7:45 AM

Thisisme, Facebook has recently changed their settings for Networked Blogs - though the above is still applicable because the installation remains the same.

You're obviously at the beginning of the process (just registering). Maybe delete your blog from Networked Blogs and start again. Make sure you're scrolling down to the bottom of the Facebook app page to find the code they're providing you with.

You need to copy this code they've given you, and place it on your blog. Go into Design, click add a gadget, choose html gadget, paste your Networked Blogs' code.

I'm having problems changing the width of the widget. Any ideas how I can do that?

Anne Lyken-Garner April 18, 2011 3:35 PM

Natasha, the width depends on your blog template. I don't think you can change that. I'm sorry I can't help in any other way.
